Cosmopolitan cities, rural villages, iconic landmarks and Mediterranean resorts, Europe is home to some of the most spectacular places on this planet.
A treasure trove of ancient architecture, royal palaces and jaw-dropping archeological sights, Europe offers an endless choice of attractions for the culture vulture. Take in the Napoleonic beauty of Paris or admire the Gaudi architecture of Barcelona. Athens plays host to the crumbling ruins of the Parthenon whilst the Renaissance and Gothic architecture of Venice is best explored aboard a gondola.
The Eastern European cities are equally impressive where the medieval Old Towns of Poland, Czech Republic and Romania boast plenty of attractions including fairytale-esque castles and beautifully preserved churches. Budapest offers an abundance of cultural sights as well as unique activities and attractions. Relax at Europe’s largest medicinal bath Széchenyi, keep your cool at one of the cities escape rooms or enjoy a drink at some of Budapest’s coolest ruin bars.
Lesser known sights include the Moorish palaces in Spain’s Andalucia, Trulli House in Alberobello or one of the original seven wonders of the world in Turkey. Slovenia is having something of a revival, as trips to the capital Ljubljana and the breathtaking Lake Bled are becoming increasingly popular. An ever growing arts and cultural scene is growing in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, which has come a long way since its independence in 2003’s Rose Revolution.
Fans of the outdoors can expect awe inspiring scenery and natural beauty unlike anywhere else in the world. From the glittering coastlines of the Mediterranean to the rolling vineyards of France’s Loire Valley, this diverse region has it all. Hike into the Scottish Highlands or enjoy a cruise deep into the heart of Norway’s spectacular Fjords.
Spanning across eight alpine countries, the Alps offer an unforgettable ski holiday. At 2300M, Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe and can be found in the Trois Vallées region along with Courchevel and Meribel. Boasting the title of the world’s oldest winter holiday resort, St. Moritz is famous for its legendary hotels, world-renowned restaurants and leisure facilities. In contrast to the old school glamour and grandeur of St. Moritz, Verbier attracts a younger crowd seeking out a more modern type of luxury and raucous apres ski scene. Val d’isere is another famous party place and is popular with the more experienced skier due to its exciting and challenging slopes.
You do not have to travel far for the best beaches in the world, some of which rival their tropical counterparts. The white sandy beaches of Sardinia could easily be confused with the Caribbean, whilst the rugged coastlines of Puglia and the Amalfi Coast feature crystal clear waters and stunning scenery. Neighbouring Spain is perceived as your typical tourist trap, however move away from the classic Costas and you will find some amazing beaches in lesser known areas. The Costa de la Luz is a great alternative to the Costa del Sol and even the popular Balearic Islands offer some of the best beaches on the continent.
The Greek Islands are one of my favourite destinations. Despite the fact Mykonos is very popular with tourists, it still retains its Cycladic charm and is home to some of the most beautiful boutique hotels. Spend the day sipping cocktails at a chic beach club on Ornos Beach or explore the island via quad bike and discover untouched treasures such as Agios Ioannis Beach. Corfu, Kefalonia, Paros and Symi all offering something different and unique.
Portugal’s Algarve is perfect for a family holiday, with an abundance of tourist complexes featuring luxury villas, world-class golfing facilities, restaurants, bars and nightclubs! Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Villamoura are some of the most popular. The French Riviera on France’s Mediterranean Coast is synonymous with the glamorous resorts of Saint-Tropez and Cannes. Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc and Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat are two of the most notable beach resorts in the area.
Croatia, Turquoise Coast
Europe offers some of the best and most exciting cuisine in the world. The continent is a diverse melting pot where Asian and African influences merge with Spanish, Italian, Greek and Turkish fare that is greatly sought after across the globe. Enjoy a slice of pizza in Naples, a steaming plate of Paella in Barcelona or traditional souvlaki in Santorini – these mouthwatering dishes will keep you coming back for more.
No trip to Europe would be complete without sampling its world class nightlife. Many of the larger cities offer an eclectic mix of bars, pubs and clubs which often play host international DJ’s. Ibiza is Europe’s leading party destination, home to some of the most famous beach bars and super clubs on the planet. Berlin, London and Amsterdam also offer some of the finest underground parties and festivals in the world.
